Just a few kilometers from Siena, on a hill overlooking the city, lies the Ancient Certosa di Pontignano, a timeless location for a characteristic stay rich in history. The Certosa di Pontignano, the official conference center of the University of Siena and an ideal destination for stays in Tuscany, dates back to 1343 and reflects the traditional appearance of Carthusian monasteries. In 1703, the Chapel of Saint Agnes was built within the Certosa, recognized worldwide as a small "Sistine Chapel" in the land of Siena. The manor house features superior rooms and a junior suite on the upper floor, while the ground floor houses the smaller rooms of the Certosa, including the Sala del Focolare, the Sala Biliardo, the Sala dell'Affresco, the Sala del Caminetto, and the Sala delle Bugie, all suitable for various types of events. Each room opens onto a magnificent balcony that overlooks the Italian Garden, offering breathtaking views of the countryside and the city of Siena. To the right, the garden hosts the Certosa's lemon house, a magical place adorned with aromatic plants. The ancient residence features three distinct Cloisters: the Main Cloister, the Conversi Cloister, and the Large Cloister, all interconnected. The Main Cloister was the center of monastic life, and here you can find the stunning 14th-century stone well as well as access to the ancient church frescoed by Poccetti in the 16th century, a small "Sistine Chapel" in the Siena area. From this first Cloister, one can access the Villa and our Restaurant. The Conversi Cloister was formerly designated as an exclusive area for the "Conversi," and today it houses the Conference Rooms, the Wine Cellar, and our Bar.Finally, the Large Cloister, once intended for the old cells of the friars, now accommodates nine apartments spread over two levels, perfect for those seeking a stay with a view of Siena, each equipped with a private garden.
