The building is believed to date back to 1318 originally. It was extended in the 17th century and then fell into partial disrepair following the Second World War. In the 1980s, it was renovated and is now a completely restored, elegant hotel. The view is spectacular - many of the rooms look out over the old town, including the city hall or St. Nicholas' Church. Are you interested in history? Scheelehuset was built during the second half of the 14th century. The exact date is not known, but a sample of wood taken from the historic roof was dated to 1383. At that time, Stralsund, along with Lübeck, was one of the most important Hanseatic cities in the southern Baltic. Architecturally, the two buildings are gabled houses with a cellar and a hall, and are several storeys high. One of the hotel buildings has a strong link with Sweden, as Carl Wilhelm Scheele was born in this house in 1742. Scheele is considered to be one of the most famous 'Swedish' scientists of all time.
